When Eric arrived at the amphitheater on the following day, he noticed that the very rear seats were mostly empty, but dotted with archers. The captain of the council guard was waiting for Eric and his guards.
Before the sergeant could open his mouth, the captain started. “Sergeant, before you say anything rash, I wish to inform you that the archers are here at the request of President Crannin. After the hostility and ejections yesterday, it is his decision that the best action is to have the archers present. You may challenge me, but if you do, I will direct you to President Crannin. Perhaps you could offer a suggestion to him, about his order for the archers.”
Serene's sergeant glared at the smugly smiling captain. “By your leave, Captain, I have to escort my charge.”
